American Horror Story Season 11 Setting, Posters & Release Date Revealed

The name and setting of the upcoming American Horror Story season 11 has been revealed. Ever since American Horror Story was renewed through season 13 in 2020, there has been much speculation and secrecy surrounding the nature of the upcoming installments. One of the largest positives for American Horror Story season 11 has been the confirmation of returning cast members like Zachary Quinto and Patti LuPone, who have not appeared on the show since its early seasons. During season 11's production, rumors abounded that it would be taking place in New York City across two different timelines.

Other cast members have teased some details about American Horror Story season 11 in recent days. While it was already confirmed that it would not be following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Double Feature, by telling two different stories in a single season, it wasn't clear what season 11's story would be. Earlier this week, frequent American Horror Story star Denis O'Hare retweeted details seemingly confirming the season's name as well as its premiere date in October. O'Hare retweeted a post from the French page AHS France that featured official-looking posters claiming the season would premiere on October 19.

Now, according to a report from Deadline, FX has officially announced that season 11 will be American Horror Story: New York City. The series will premiere on Wednesday, October 19 at 10 PM EST/PST, airing its first two episodes. Both episodes will be available to stream on Hulu the following day, with FX airing two episodes a night each week, totaling 10 episodes within a five-week time span. This confirmation was also accompanied by two new posters highlighting what audiences can expect from this season.

What A New York Setting Means For American Horror Story

From longtime American Horror Story veterans returning to a title that reconfirms the setting of its latest season, AHS: New York City is shaping up to be a mysterious entry in the franchise. While little is confirmed about the story for this season, the sharp imagery within the two new posters signifies the level of danger major characters will face. This will likely be a thorny season for all involved, and the New York City setting could suggest a turn towards urban terror. The posters are very indirect about what possible story or subject matter New York City will explore, but the feeling of dread when looking at them is palpable.

It's possible this season of American Horror Story may end up being influenced by creator Ryan Murphy's increased interest in true crime in recent years. Having created the popular Netflix biographical miniseries Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and remaining on track to helm American Sports Story and American Love Story, it's possible that Murphy may pull inspiration from real-world events to develop this latest season of American Horror Story. Even if this comes to fruition, audiences won't fully know how New York City will play out until its double episode premiere next month.
